Fifth Freedom Routes

Amsterdam to Jakarta via KUL

AMS → KUL → CGK

This is one of KLM’s oldest long-haul routes, with its origins dating all the way back to the 1920s. The first flight to what was then called Batavia (now Jakarta) took place in 1924, using a specially modified Fokker F.VII. By 1929, regular services had begun, with the journey taking around 12 days and involving numerous stops to refuel along the way. Within just a few years, improvements to the aircraft and route had reduced the journey to less than a week. Today, the journey takes around 15 hours, with a stop in Kuala Lumpur.
