Buenos Aires to Darwin
EZE → DRW
In October 2021, Qantas operated QF14 as a government-facilitated repatriation flight for Australians stranded in South America during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Boeing 787 flew from Buenos Aires to Darwin, where passengers were transferred directly to the Howard Springs quarantine facility for two weeks before continuing to their homes. The route took the aircraft deep over Antarctica, reaching almost 75°S, making the flight one of the most southerly commercial passenger flights ever recorded. Overflying the Antarctic continent is extremely rare. Pan Am did it in 1977 when they celebrated their 50th anniversary in style by circumnavigating the globe north to south on a 747SP, which flew over the South Pole when it flew from Cape Town to Auckland.
