Polar Crossings
Toronto to Hong Kong
YYZ → HKG
Cathay Pacific began linking Toronto with Hong Kong in 1994, initially using Boeing 747-400s with a refueling stop in Anchorage, Alaska. In 2000, an Airbus A340-300 completed a non-stop transpolar flight, demonstrating the potential of a more direct route across the Arctic. Air Canada entered the non-stop market in 2004, using the ultra-long-range Airbus A340-500 to compete on the same city pair. Cathay Pacific introduced regular daily non-stop services in 2008, initially with the A340-600 and later the Boeing 777-300ER. Today, Cathay operates the route with Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft.
